Bridal Flowers

Flowers have always been a major part of the wedding celebrations and
custom has it that the groom should wear a flower that appears
in the bridal bouquet in his buttonhole. This represents the medieval
tradition of a Knight wearing his Lady's colours as a declaration of his love.

The bridal bouquet is considered to bring good luck and happiness to
the marriage and the ends of the ribbons strewn throughout the flowers
are tied in knots to symbolise unity. Bouquets used to be
made up of white flowers to symbolise purity although nowadays flowers are
usually chosen to complement the dresses worn by the
bride and the bridesmaids.

A relatively new tradition, introduced from America, is for the bride to throw
her bouquet back over her shoulder as she is about to leave for
her honeymoon. It is said that whoever catches the bouquet
will be the next to marry.
